The Laramie County Sheriff’s Department has partnered with Black Dog Animal Rescue to match cats in need with inmates vetted and deemed responsible enough to care for these cats.

Home on the Range Animal Haven
Founded in 2012, Home on the Range Animal Haven (HORAH) is the only animal haven in Laramie, WY. They have a two-fold purpose: returning the animals to sound physical, social, and emotional health while providing a forever home, and working with community organizations to enhance the well-being, sense of purpose, and self-worth of its individuals.

Sweetwater County officials in Wyoming struggled with how to charge a man who was sexually assaulting horses and apparently filming it in the summer of 2020.
Legislative News: Wyoming Animal Abuse Statute Undergoes Reorganization
Wyoming consistently ranks at the bottom tier of all 50 states when the states’ animal welfare laws are evaluated by national animal protection organizations.
The goal is to consolidate statutes where feasible, review inconsistencies, clean up statute definitions and refine sections. The result of the committee’s work, Senate File 26, is titled Animal abuse statutes reorganization and update. Rock Springs Animal Control Removes Gas Chamber!
With the help of a grant from the Humane Society of the United States, Rock Springs Animal Control succeeded in removing, crushing, and recycling their latest gas chamber (along with a previous one).
City Councilman Tim Savage helped connect the shelter staff with the HSUS for grant funding to demolish the gas chamber, ensuring it will never be used by others again.
Legislative News: Bond & Forfeiture
Senate Files 25 and 26 provide a process so that agencies seizing animals can receive money upfront for the cost of care or can adopt out the animals earlier if the owner does not follow a court order to cover the costs of care in custody. These bills cover companion animals or pets, and livestock, seized as evidence.
