BECOME A VOLUNTEER

Do you love animals and live in Wyoming?

If you would like to volunteer, first ask yourself if you have the following:

  • A sincere awareness of and interest in the ethical treatment of animals

  • A sincere belief in the WYCAP mission and its potential to perform useful public service

  • Ability and willingness to listen with an open mind and deal with conflict tactfully

  • Willingness to communicate courteously with others about animal welfare issues

  • Willingness to respond to action alerts via emails, letters, phone calls or social media

  • Ability to work independently and be a self starter

  • Ability to be discreet and maintain confidentiality

  • Commitment to taking action one to three hours per week; majority of work can be done remotely or via phone

  • Willingness to attend virtual training opportunities and to consider attendance at an annual in-person meeting to network with statewide WYCAP members

Below are 5 ways you can help.

1. Be the Information Hub on animal welfare issues and programs in your county:

  • Serve as an ambassador and local contact for WYCAP in your community; connect with shelters/rescues to gather, exchange, and provide information.

  • Provide feedback from these organizations of suggestions for reform of their shelters and rescues.

  • Enquire as to their thoughts on legislative, legal advocacy, and public outreach matters. Inform WYCAP of local events, contests, etc. that support animal welfare so WYCAP can help promote these causes.

  • Maintain a professional relationship with local employees, officials, staff, and volunteers engaged in animal protection or care; services such as veterinary, grooming, pet store, animal training, etc.

  • Mobilize community members to take action and communicate with elected officials on animal welfare issues, especially with local ordinance amendments or new laws considered in the legislature.

  • Recruit and provide contact information for the WYCAP membership to broaden receipt of the quarterly newsletter and ‘action alerts’ during the legislative session and events around the state.

  • Report on programs that are new, unique, or beneficial in animal welfare that can be spotlighted in the WYCAP newsletter, on WYCAP ’s website, and social media.

  • Monitor news outlets and social media for stories that need action; e.g., prosecution of animal abuse cases; ordinance to prohibit certain breeds of dogs; killing contests; puppy mills; dog fighting, etc.
